Kabir.

One fine day, Kabir was running down the road and his mother was chasing him. I was cycling at that time and was approaching from the opposite side. Kabir was gasping and his mother was trying to catch up with him with a rolling pin in her hand. She was shouting loudly-“Wait till I get hold of you.”A street dog was sleeping on the road and as Kabir ran past him, he too got up and started chasing Kabir. The dog was barking and a passerby picked a stone and threw it at the dog and the dog stopped barking with it’s remnant agony and went to other side of the road.

As her shouts increased, so did Kabir’s pace of running. I was trying to avoid the whole mess, but Kabir saw me and hid behind me. He got on to the back seat of the cycle and said “turn the cycle around quickly and cycle away from here before Ma catches up with us.” His mother was panting, still she had the zeal and energy to chase Kabir down. So, unwantingly I had to turn the cycle around and we went to my house.

Until I reached my home, Kabir remained tense. Now that we were in safe domain, he opened his mouth after having a glass of water.

Kabir-“I am not going back home. I will stay here.”

Me-“But what has happened? Why was aunty chasing you?”

Kabir-“That’s because I had made a big mistake.”

Me-“What mistake?”Kabir-“My mother was making rotis and keeping it in a casserole. A crow which comes regularly to our window still was cawing “kaa, kaa” and was asking for food. On a daily basis I give it bread or biscuits to eat.”

Me-“Still, I don’t find any fault in it.”

Kabir-“That’s where I made the blunder. I had seen Ma make those rotis and keep it in the casserole, so I took out all four nice and hot rotis made by Ma and after making several pieces of it, I gave all the pieces to the crow.”

Me-“Aunty, must have been very angry.”

Kabir-“Ma was furious. When she saw that the rotis were missing from the casserole, she shouted and angrily asked –“Who took the rotis from the casserole?” Now dad was shaving at that moment, so I couldn’t put the blame on him, so naturally I had to accept my crime.”

Me- “Then?”

Kabir-“Ma, was boiling. She told me-“You gave the rotis that I made to that blistering crow?””

After saying this, Kabir took a moment’s break and drank another gulp of water.

Me-“Then?”

Kabir-“Then? Then all hell broke lose.”

Me-“How?”

Kabir-“Ma began screaming. She said-“do you know how precious my sweat drops are? Their worth cannot be adjudged by a stupid boy like you. They are priceless and you wasted my sweat, my time and my hard work?”” Then Kabir stopped.

Me-“So?”

Kabir-“All was under control till now, save my father poked his nose in between. He was shaving his beard, when he jerked his head out of the bathroom and said-“your sweat isn’t worth a dime, as my mother’s sweat was also not given any value. TIll now I have not got any tiffin.”

This sentence of his infuriated Ma like anything. She picked up the rolling pin and before she could do anything, I escaped by running and she followed me.”

Me-“Oh, so you are the culprit. That’s why aunty was so angry.”

Kabir-“Yes.”

Me-“Well you can stay here till evening six o’ clock, but after that you would have to go back home.”

Then we all had lunch.

After lunch,

Kabir- “Can’t I stay here the whole night?”

Me-“No, you can’t stay here as aunty and uncle would be worried and anxious about you.”Kabir’s face fell on hearing my words. He was scared and his guilt was to the tee of his whims.

He responded-“What punishment my father will get, only God knows. Maybe Ma won’t speak to him for weeks or he would have to prepare his own tiffin.”

Kabir had a brilliant talent of drawing.

So I asked him to make a drawing of an elephant for me. Within half an hour he did so. After seeing his drawing, I couldn’t control myself from asking him to make me another drawing of a rose.

He finished the rose within forty five minutes and even coloured it. The rose looked beautiful and glorious.

I told him-“Don’t worry Kabir, I will go with you to your home and show this drawing to aunty and she will definitely forgive you.

Then my sister who was studying the whole time Kabir was here, came forward and said-“I too would go and meet aunty and convince her to forgive you.”

Kabir’s mood lightened up a bit after hearing our words.

In the evening after having tea and snacks, we all went to his home. It was his father who had opened the door and said-“Your mother is very angry. I didn’t even get lunch. Had to order food from a restaurant and your mother didn’t have a single morsel of food since morning, so I too couldn’t have it.”

Suddenly his mother appeared in the doorway and Kabir cowered back and hid behind me. My sister went ahead and said-“Aunty please, forgive him. He is scared to the core.”

Kabir’s mother- “Do I have any other option other than forgiving him?” Then she suddenly realized that we all were standing on the porch, so she said –“Why are you all standing on the porch? Come in”

Instead of going inside the house, Kabir took two steps backwards, when his father caught hold of him and took him inside.

My sister-“Aunty, I will make rotis for you and the next time I come, please teach me to make bhakris.”

Hearing this words Kabir’s mother had tear in her eyes and said-“God Bless you child.”

My sister quickly made rotis (round flour bread), a sabji (vegetable) and dal (lentil).

After the hearty and sumptuous meal me and my sister went back home. Kabir was still afraid of his mother and he had locked himself up in his room. Aunty had thanked my sister a lot for making the food. She too had helped but was feeble for not having food since morning.

The next day we met Kabir and he said-“Ma didn’t say a single word to me.”

Apparently he was still scared of his mother and tried to slip out of his house early in the morning, but his mother stopped him and made him have his breakfast.

Hope he doesn’t chicken out anymore.

Happy Chinese New Year-The Year of The Pig.

Happy Chinese New Year 2019. The Year of the Pig has begun today on 5th February 2019, Tuesday.

Celebrations have been going on throughout the world. I had done a course on Mandarin language few years back as it is one of the most spoken languages in the world. My dad had got a job after two weeks the new Chinese year had began three years back. The job was in Vietnam, where they celebrate it and while the celebrations go on, there are continuous holidays where in schools, colleges and offices(public and private) are closed for the new Lunar year.

The Lunar year which began today, is a considered an auspicious time, with people celebrating with fireworks, cleaning their house, to remove all bad vibrations from the house and to bring in good fortune and vibrations in their house. Its a time for prosperity, good fortune and celebrations.

Many countries such as Laos, Cambodia, China, Vietnam celebrate the Chinese New Year with grand festivities and yesterday was my mother’s birthday, so I am very happy that the Chinese new year has begun nearly on Ma’s birthday.

I wish you all a Happy Chinese new year.

So True!

So true, that the Sun shines.

So true, that life goes on.

So true, that babies laugh.

So true, that we all write.

So true, that wilting occurs.

So true, that destiny is a false cover over truth and it is false.

So true, that being puny but strong is good.

So true, that good is good and bad is bad.

So true, that we all fall asleep.

So true, that it is afternoon and Mr. Sun is doing hip-hop over my head.

So true, that birds can sing.

So true, that cuckoos coo.

So true, that we all talk.

So true,, that when sometimes teams lose, then they win.

So true, that God loves us.

So true, that we fail to recognize his love.

So true, that his love keeps us alive.

So true, that we are his child.

So true, we are our parent’s child/children too.

So true, that paradoxes are both witty and funny.

So true, that irony stands without being loony.

So true, that more than often, loony are better than sane.

So true, that a proclaimed sane person is truly insane.

So true, that to drive, we need a bike or car.

So true, that have a bike or car, we need real money.

So true, that to earn money we need to work hard.

So true, that to work hard, we need to have a job or business.

So true, that to go for a job or business, we need energy.

So true, that for having and getting energy, we need to have food.

So true, that for having food, we need to prepare it.

So true that to have delicious and nutritious food, it needs to be prepared by one’s mother.

So true, that football and table tennis are the best games in the world.

So true, that being a doctor is a great responsibility.

So true, that true sportsman spirit comes in accepting defeat rather than boasting about winning.

So true, that umpires are needed for umpiring.

So true, that referees can refer to correct.

So true, that we all need dictionaries.

So true, that dictionaries make our language understanding and our life better.

So true, that everyone’s Ma and Baba loves them the most, barring a few ones and for them God exists!

So true, that love is a sustainable energy. Cultivate it with love, honesty and truth and see its miracles.

So true, that love is God’s grace, without which the world would fall, but to keep the engines running, let love grow in manifolds.

The truth is the thing which envelopes ourselves. To seek and search it is divine but to stay with it is self.

Self and truth go hand in hand. Without truth, self becomes no self and truth without self becomes false.

When false becomes the truth, we need to remind ourselves about ourselves. When we will and when we can, then, nothing such as money, greed, ego, talks, aggrandizement and status shall matter.

Only truth and love shall exist! Be with your own true self as there is nothing truer than it.

As God’s love shines,

So we shine,

As truth persists,

We persist.

So true it is!

Playing Like a Child.

Childhood and games are God’s gifts to a newborn soul.

A nascent baby perceives the world through his/her parents. But as soon as he starts growing up, he starts playing with toys and nowadays in mobiles and tablets. When that kid is a bit more aged, he or she plays with toys which are designed according to their age.

A child’s best playmate is his/her mother and father. Especially mother. Mothers turn out to be such beautiful and natural playmates that none can second them in this.

But childhood slips away faster than sand slips from hand and with our growth into adolescence we all become a burden on ourselves.

Soon, we forget about all those beautiful days on which we have grown up.

But there comes a time when God gives everyone a chance to relive their childhood days.

Sometimes, maybe a younger brother or sister visits you at home and asks you to play with him or her.

Maybe you visit your aunt and uncle and in their house, a small kid is there who wants you to be his/her playmate and push his cycle or to play horse-riding with him.

The biggest chance to become a child again comes when one is bestowed with parenthood. Sometimes it is difficult to ascertain, who is the kid here. The kid or the parent? Many times fathers and mothers buy toys which they want to play themselves, under the cover of buying it for their child. It gives them a chance to relive, re-breathe those days which are gone with a generation behind. Even grandparents do the same.

Mobile games now a days, are a raging phenomenon, but more than young kids, you would find those boring adults playing games like “pop the ball or chess or cricket” continuously on their phones.

When android games became famous, it was mostly due to people aged above twenty to twenty five playing such games on their phones non-stop.

Senior citizens are the most prominent, regular, sincere, honest and continuous mobile game players. With the upgrade in technology, they too are upgrading themselves.

More than four to five times I have seen that a salesman, sitting behind the store counter is playing a game on his mobile, when the business remains idle or even when the shop or business is going on full swing.

Delivery boys too play games on their phones when they go to deliver the goods.

The main point which I want to bring in focus over here is, that frequently we say others on any big to small matter that-“are you a child?”

But more than often we we remain a child inside.

Those beautiful, warm and glowing days spent in mother’s lap, glowing and basking under her warmth and love are priceless. It simply can’t be matched. Additionally, dads too would be of a nature in which they would be softer than butter and more free flowing than water in those days. But, alas! With dads, the whole thing reverses and as we grow up, strictness and discipline emanates from them, like fragrance from sandalwood.

GOD, the highest of all, had indeed come on Earth and he too had faced many hardships, but in those hardships, games which he used to play in his childhood days, have been his friend and beautiful and happy memories forever.

I have a friend who used to ride horses and horse riding was his passion, hobby and God’s grace on him. It was the only game which kept him motivated, happy and jovial.

My maternal grandfather too used to ride horses, when he was young, extremely handsome and full of youth.

Another friend of mine would dress up as an adult when he was a young kid and that was his favourite pastime.

When I was small, Ma and Baba would play with me as if they both too are small children.

Nowadays, as a so called “adult” we have to try to earn money, so that we can survive and fill our tummies or stomachs, but one’s mind and soul still yearns for those wonderful, beautiful and excellent days when playing a game or two of cricket, football, badminton and table tennis would suffice to exist.

I don’t know about the latest version of children who are tech savvy and are miniature versions of adults, but the child inside me, Ma and Baba still wants to play, sing, laugh and if possible with God’s grace live a beautiful and happily life.

My father used to fly kites, play marbles, go for fishing, do cycling, and play football but with undue responsibilities and studies he had to leave everything and go to a hostel to study and immediately after getting his degrees (masters), he had to join a job, leaving his research work. Throughout his school he was a brilliant child and was always a scholarship getter. From Higher secondary till he continued his P.HD research, he used to get scholarships. His childhood which he largely missed out due to somebody else’s fault reflects largely in him whenever he sees a kite flying, a child playing marbles, someone fishing and sometimes he reminisces about his lost childhood in which to study he had to sell bananas.

Hope the child in you becomes alive and awakened on reading this post. To relive those beautiful days when we all were small, young, happy and full of energy, play a game of ludo or checkers with your parents, siblings or friends. If you win then proclaim yourself a winner. But if you lose don’t sulk, but be happy and play another round of that game. After all childhood were and are happy days. A true gift from God.
