Eating The Famous Vada Pav.

Vada pav is a fast food in Maharashtra.Especially in Mumbai and it is very famous worldwide.People from all parts of life love it and have it.For many it serves as a quick lunch. In Maharashtra, it is one of the highest selling street food.At every corner of Mumbai, you would find vada pav vendors selling vada pavs and there would be a continuous buzz around the vendor as the number of people who have come to buy vada pav, would keep on swelling and the que never get thinner.Instead, by the hours, day passes into noon and afternoon, one can see that more people are making a que to buy vada pav.In my college days, ma used to pack me sufficient tiffin. But those dehydrating and monotonous lectures would drain all the energy out of me.By the end of the first recess, my tiffin box would become empty and by the time the second recess would start, I would be very hungry. Sometimes ma would give me an additional apple to eat and despite having it, my hunger would still remain. So, most of the days or quite frequently, I would rush down to the canteen and try to buy a vada pav.Now as you all know, it is a very famous food item and nearly everybody would make a rush for it and by the time I would reach the canteen, the vada pav would get over and the guy on the other side of the counter would say-“thoda ruk jao. Garma garam vada pav tal ke deta hun.” This line was in Hindi. It translates-“Wait for just a bit, I would give you freshly fried vada pav.” “Vada” is the round ball filled with mashed potato and layered with gram flour which is fried and “pav” is the bread with which it is had.Sometimes they would give a particular masala to have with it or sometimes they would give mirchi/green chilli to have with it or they would apply green coriander chutney inside the bread and that would serve as a soothing agent to the hot vada.

My second recess used to be of ten minutes and in that nearly eight minutes would go waiting at the canteen counter. When they would finally give me the vada pav, it would be extremely hot as it had just been taken out of the oil and served. I would wait for two more minutes before I could have it and thankfully my teachers would not reach the class on time after the recess would get over and I would be able to finish my vada pav safely.

Those days were amazing.Nearly everyday I would tell ma-“Ma today I had vada pav.”

One day,ma surprised me by making vada pav for me. I was so happy. We enjoyed with hot tea and our evening became marvellous.

Many a times, ma,baba and me we have had vada pav and it is a simple, handy and extremely lovable food to have, It is food for the common man.

The Celtic – Irish Myths and Gifts.

My father many days back had the opportunity to meet some people from Ireland. When he had gone to meet them, I hadn’t known that he would come back with a special Celtic gift. At ten o’ clock when he came back home, he handed me a small gift box. After we had finished having our dinner, baba asked me to open the box. I was very surprised when I found out that it contained an authentic Celtic- Irish Charm, which was from Ireland.

Now, here’s where it connects with me. From my childhood, I have read many Celtic folklore, legends, myths and mythologies. I am big fan of it. After reading a particular series of books, completely based on Celtic myths, I told ma,”Ma we should visit Ireland. It’s the place for me.” Ma-“Yes for two nights and three days, because if we stay for more there, then we would not be able to afford it.” It brought me back to ground reality that-yes travelling to Ireland would cost a lot.So, I dropped the idea and instead started observing the charm. There was a booklet with it and I read the booklet. I felt as if I was a part of the Celtic myths or the myths were playing with me. All those characters whom I had read about or seen in those colourful (colouring) folklore books, had nearly came alive. After a while,I kept the charm safely on the shelf and was very proud to have a Celtic-Irish myth charm with me. After all a legend is a legend.Ma had bought many Irish fairy stories and I have a friend who had given me a fairy colouring book and she used to live for sometime in Ireland.I remembered her and I dedicate this post to ma, baba and her.

Sweet Biryani Rice made with Apple Cider and Pineapple Syrup.

Ma had made plain biryani rice without any chicken or mutton. The simple yet delicious biryani rice ,flavoured with garam masala ie. cardamom, cinnamon and cloves and saffron threads is what she had made. It tasted simply wonderfull. Even if you have it without any curry or sides, it is plentiful to fill your appetite and taste buds. Sometimes she makes sweet biryani well for me, as I cannot digest the hot and spicyness of the tasty and tangy biryani due to dieting. So, while she was cooking the rice, I asked her to make the biryani rice sweet. You wouldn’t believe it. Like a magician ma wipped out two bottles of apple cider and pineapple syrups and in small quantities she added then to the rice. When I was about to eat the rice, I was skeptical. But as soon as I placed a mouthfull of it in my mouth, it tasted simply marvellous. As they both were added in lesser quantities, the sweetness was not over powering the other masalas which she had added and the cashews and the raisins were simply too much for me. I was over joyed. While chewing on a raisin, I wondered that; in heaven do they have such good food? As the food which I was eating was simply no lesser than any angelic food. I am sure that the angels would even que up in a line to have Ma’s food. But Alas! they can’t. That’s why GOD has made humans.Atleast we can have and enjoy good food. Who knows? One or two of them, might have eaten with me.

Vanilla Ice Cream With Fried Honey Chips.

Four big scoops of vanilla Ice cream with fried honey chips, are simply marvellous to eat. When bored simply order for it from a nearby restaurant and enjoy.

The icy cold vanilla ice cream with those thick and crispy fried honey chips which is dripping with honey is a taste changer for the tongue and very beneficial for keeping the mind cool.Scoops after scoops will vanish down the lanes of the stomach and keep it cool and calm. If the fried honey chips are thick and twisted then know that they are quite heavy for the stomach and after having it for a while, there comes a time when one cannot eat anymore but there is still ice cream and honey chips left in good amount in the ice cream bowl. It’s an excellent dessert and superbly made invention of the chef who has invented it, in whichever part of the world may it have been and that chef has done a mind blowing job. There are scores and scores of ice cream out there, but the combination of vanilla ice cream with fried honey chips is simply excellent. It’s mucho superbo!
