The Holidays.

The holidays were such a time when we all cherished each and every moment of it. The holidays meant breaking free from the rigidity of daily life. The fun in packing bags and suitcases is a bit tedious but the true fun lies in slinging on the bag pack and getting ready for the journey. Getting onto a train, making the berth for sleeping is another fun which my father used to do for me. Once or twice I have made a crumpled berth for sleeping. Waking up early in the train, watching the green fields and having omelettes from the train pantry is fun beyond words. At home many of us make faces and say-“Omelettes. Can’t we have macaroni and cheese?”  But there is no greater fun than having omelette with bread, a chunk of butter and cold water.”

Flight journeys were a rare privilege which once in two years we could afford. The best part of holidays were of visiting my maternal grandmother. Those days were golden. She was a ball of pure love.

Such were my beautiful holidays.

We just simply miss them.

Be happy and have holidays. Hope that very soon we too shall have one and more than one.

The Nose Ring.

A woman had lost her nose ring. It was her grandmother’s. She searched it everywhere, but couldn’t find it anywhere. In her office, at her home and at each and every place which she could think of.

At last she told her mother that she had lost the ring. Her mother replied-“I know.”

Woman-“How could you know Ma?”

Her mother-“For the past two days, you aren’t wearing your nose ring and you never let them out of your sight.”

Woman-“Ma, please help me find them.”

Her mother-“No need.”

Woman-“What do you mean no need?”

Her mother-“It is right in front of my eye.”

Woman was bewildered. She looked here and there, but couldn’t find it.

Woman-“Ma where is it? Please tell me.”

Her mother simply held aloft the gold chain which her daughter was wearing. Her daughter looked at it. There behind the pendant was the nose ring dangling like a pendulum.

Woman-“Ma you are God, I searched everywhere but I couldn’t find it.”

Her mother-“That’s why I am your mother.

The daughter hugged her mother and went to her office happily but this time the nose ring was placed firmly on her nose.

David And The Bird-Part 1.

Once David was walking down the road, when he saw a small bird sitting on a branch. He whistled to it and the bird turned his heads towards him. As David reached near the tree, the bird kept a watch on him and the moment he dropped some corns for the bird to eat, the bird flew and sat on a higher branch.  David walked a few paces and turned but saw that the bird was not there on the tree anymore.

He thought that he might have flown away. He started walking again and saw that a boy was riding a bicycle and went ahead of him. On the back seat of the cycle, the bird was sitting and preening its feathers.

David felt happy on seeing him again and whistled again but this time the bird got off the cycle, came in front of David and whistled and flew away into the skies unknown.

Two days later David again met with that bird.

Cricket On A Road.

Have you ever played cricket on a road? The game simply becomes fantastic.

A game of cricket played on any road, is a game where the stumps are either shorter or longer or most probably imaginary.

The rules are self-made and the umpiring is highly biased.

The most fun comes when protests are lodged with the umpire, who often disregards the rules towards the team whom he is not favouring.

When a batsman hits a four or a six, he learns it the hard way, that when the ball goes into someone else’s house, it is hard to convince them to give it back.

Many run away after the ball accidentally hits someone’s window glass and breaks it.

Road cricket is full of fun and frolic but be very careful, don’t hit anyone’s glass panes.
