The Village Woman Who wanted To Buy A Television.

Once, we were travelling to a distant city via car. On the way over there, the places are full of rural lives. At a juncture, we stopped our car and had sugarcane juice over there in tall glasses. The juice tasted wonderful.

At the opposite side of the juice center a woman was cooking and selling food. Ma and me, we went over to that shop.

It was being run by a village woman and what attracted Ma was that she was making omelettes using a large and colourful ladle.  The village woman asked Ma-“Shall I pack two omelettes for you?”

Ma-“No,no I just had sugarcane juice to my fill.”

She-“Oh.”

She-“Where are you from?”

Ma-“From a distant city.”

She-“I have been living in this village since my childhood, I was born here.”

Ma-“ Do you manage this food outlet by yourself?”

She-“Most of the times. My son helps sometimes.”

Ma-“Where is your home?”

She-“Its nearby. I have a big cattle ranch and there are many cows in it. We also sell milk. The cows give us a lot of milk.”

Ma-“What does your husband do?”

She-“He’s a farmer. Yet he behaves like a city man.”

Ma-“Why do you say so?”

She-“He loves to watch cricket matches on television.”

Ma-“So? Everyone loves cricket.”

She-“But every now and then he would be crooning near my ears that if we had television set, then I could watch those matches.”

Ma-“ Don’t you have a television set at your home?”

She-“No.”

Ma-“Then where does your husband watch those cricket matches?”

She-“Near, the Panchayat office, there is a small room. All men have pitched in and given some money so that they can buy a small television set for watching matches. So I am saving money to buy a big television set and for my daughter’s marriage too.”

Ma-“That will lead to more people coming over to your house to watch on the television.”

She-” I would keep it off most of the times and during afternoon when everyone rests, I would watch old movies.”

Ma-“Does, your village have electricity?”

She-“Yes, nearly a year, electricity was given to the whole village.”

Ma-“Good. Pack two omelettes for us.”

She-“Hearing those words from Ma her face lit up and with those omelettes she packed two freshly made small breads for us. She didn’t charge her for the bread, but Ma gave her the payment for the bread too.

The village woman said-“This village is my life. My whole happiness lies in being here.”

Ma-“Good for you. Village life is simple, happy and wonderful.”

She-“Yes and nodded her head.”

Then we went back to our car and our journey resumed.

While travelling I thought that we have so many askings, but the village woman had few. She had also said that she needs to give her daughter’ marriage. Had she not been saving money to buy a television set, she would be free to pursue her dreams, celebrate her daughter’s marriage in a grand way and save more money for her pension and savings.

We ate those omelettes on our way and they tasted smooth, soft and beautiful. They smelt smoky and different with the bread.

Such is the journey of life.

Simplicity.

Simplicity is God’s boon. Those who are simple, simplicity simply oozes out of them.

It can’t be moulded, can’t be dented and can’t be sold for any amount.

Anything which doesn’t over burden you, maintains self-respect and discipline is simplicity in its mediocre form. In its highest form, there wouldn’t be the need to identify whether someone is simple or simply maintains it for the sake of society or as an act.

One never need to be told about simplicity. Its in our ecosystem.  It’s the first thing attracts most of us. An uncomplicated gadget, an uncomplicated ecosystem, a fresh and beautiful air, nice and clean, these things don’t need telling about twice. They simply are and will be, provided man doesn’t change them.

But people do often change. That’s the time when simplicity simply leaves them and they act even dumber than donkeys.

For example:- You can have a breakfast of bread and jam, but you choose to have such a breakfast where you need to gobble up four building sized burgers and three gigantic pizzas and after you do so, you have to lie down on your bed, as you wouldn’t be able to move even an inch and may even have to call the doctor.

One can have two pens in your pencil box, even three at the most, but pens are such lucrative objects wherein people often end up keeping five-six pens in their box or in their bags.

Money, greed and lust often drives a person away from simplicity.

It’s good to be honest, to strive hard, to work hard and with that if you have simplicity in your jewel box then nothing better than it.

Lovely Time Of That Summer.

That summer went by happily.

We were happy,

We were dancing,

We were singing,

On each and every morning we had light breakfast,

Every lunch was a superb brunch,

Every dinner was a delight,

Every day was a delight.

Every second was a breath in paradise.

The lovely time of that summer will be ours to feel, revisit and live on with us forever and forever.

Can Knowledge Be Gained?

Knowledge is the everlasting and ever filled bowl of information which simply keeps on over flowing. It never gets over.

There is not a second, neither a millisecond which exists without knowledge. Being in the know and being in the dark makes a lot of difference.

It’s knowledge that makes heaven and hell for one.

In many civilisations knowledge was and is considered the greatest “wealth” that one can ever had.

When a small child is born, he/she is completely blank about the worldly affairs but with time he/she learns about the world. But contrarily, many kids show exemplary display of fine knowledge in various things even when they are not even aware of it.

So the question arises, that whether knowledge is in built like an over flowing reserve of water, as gift from God Almighty for being a child?

Does a child learn everything while he/she is in her mother’s womb or is it preloaded into it?

Science mostly doesn’t support the “preloaded knowledge “ fact. But that the fact science itself is ever changing, it’s only a matter of time, before a scientist or a common man proves that knowledge is preloaded before being conceived or before taking birth outside a mother’s womb.

Then everyone will say that’s what it was and is.

So the question that remains to be answered is, that can knowledge be gained?

Knowledge exists everywhere. When you are in a new country, in a new place, you will find and see knowledge poking at you from every corner of a street. There is so much to learn in this illusory world, that many times our heads take time to process it.

Knowledge can better be understood, it can be felt, it can be seen, can be known and can be thrived upon. On the other hand gaining knowledge is a cumbersome business.

Many students who learn subjects like repeating parrots often struggle within themselves, as their knowledge is hallow, meaningless and only learned to fulfil the demands of a teacher who is equally hollow.

Hollow knowledge is like an ever fluctuating and falling currency. It will never stand on its feet.

For example:- Take the the functioning of the human heart. To learn and memorize about the whole functioning of the human heart, it takes a day or two, but to understand it you may need half an hour, an hour, a day or even weeks or months altogether. Most science students don’t remember anything about it. Even cardiologists, biologists have a difficult time remembering it. Those who have understood it can explain it to you at any moment in their lifetime, but the great learned parrots cannot. They need their textbooks, their diagrams, their mobile phones, their apps, their fruit juice, their snacks, their this and their that to explain the functioning of the human heart.

That’s why human heart often guides its master to the right place, but the mind which is a trapping device plays hoolahoop with it.

So, ponder over it. Give it a serous thinking.
I know that it has been repeatedly said that knowledge can be gained, it cannot be destroyed.

For me knowledge is like the part of my soul. You don’t exist without it and it doesn’t exist without you.

Anything gained can be lost.

It’s a bit complicated.

N.B. After having your lunch go over it, while taking your afternoon nap, ponderingly dream that can knowledge be gained?

At the most, you fill find that it can be retained with a lot of practice and focus.
