Florence.

A city of beauty. A city of majestique. A city where nightingale lived.

My maternal grandfather, had a dream of visiting that city. But he couldn’t.

Many dream of settling down in such a place and to let the charm of the city to let life cradle itself and to make it grow beautifully. To row in a gondola was another of his dream wearing a red cap.

IT STILL AWAITS, BUT NOW HE IS THE KING OF HEAVEN AND HE RULES……………………

A small girl and her mother.

On a street bang opposite a famous mall, I saw a small girl in a traditional Maharashtrian saree. The mother and daughter were both dressed in traditional attire. The little girl was small, nearly aged about four to five years, I found it very surprising that traditional Maharashtrian sarees are available for kids too.

There were festivities going on in a nearby place and they were going back home after attending it.

It is very normal for a mother and her kid to go for a walk, but what got my attention was that the small girl was wearing a Santa Claus cap, which was big for her head and it kept falling on her eyes. After walking a few paces, the mother folded the cap precisely, so that it would fit her head perfectly.Seeing her do this, my childhood memories came back, when ma would tuck in my shirt or would help me wear my tie which I faltered in doing so everyday. Ma would do it with 100% perfection and ease and seeing her do it regularly, I learnt to do so, but my tie used to be a bit unnatural wherein when ma used to make my tie, it felt as if  the ties too wanted to be made by her.

Childhood and motherhood go hand in hand, heart in heart. The bond between a child and his parents, especially a small child and his mother is the supreme bond of love which exists.

Christmas is coming and Santa’s cap and other such items are available everywhere now, but Jesus’s Love for each and everyone, is what makes Christmas even merrier.

Mango Lollypop Atop an Vanilla Butterscotch Ice Cream in Rio de Janeiro.

An ice cream vendor in Rio de Janeiro was standing quietly on the side of the street. My friend who now lives there, had just come out of a movie theater where he had eaten a hot Cubano sandwich. Not only that, he had very happily munched upon the chillies served as a side with it.

Luckily, he hadn’t brought the sandwich while watching the cinema. He had bought the sandwich after the movie got over or otherwise he would have been in a very bad condition..

So, before he could feel the heat of the sandwich, he had spotted the ice cream vendor and rushed to him.

Keeping one hand on his face and the other on the ice cream stand, the vendor had fallen asleep.

When Martin (my friend’s name) came and demanded that he must give the ice cream as quickly as possible, the seller woke with a jolted start and went back to his sleep. Martin banged the ice cream stand top and loudly asked for an ice cream.

The seller replied-“I don’t sell ice creams. Go away.”

This time Martin, instead of banging the counter, shook the man quite vigorously. Had it been anyone else, he would have been in a serious trouble. This time the ice cream vendor woke up, rubbed his eyes mercilessly and opening the top of the ice cream fridge, he placed two scoops of vanilla butterscotch ice cream in a cup. Then he opened a box and out of that box he brought out a mango lollypop and with precision removed the stick of the lollypop and placed the lollypop on the top of the ice cream and gave Martin the cup with a small wooden ice cream stick and then like a grumpy person, went back to sleep.

Martin relishingly finished his ice cream and he had kept the mango lollypop for the last bit and he told me that it tasted thousand times better than the ice cream.

He again woke up the man, to pay the price. The ice cream seller said in a sleepy baritone-“ twenty reals. (Money in Brazil is Brazilian reals)”. He took the money from Martin and taking the money he went back to sleep. Martin who had finished keeping the change back in his pocket, woke him up again and asked-“sir, how much for ten lollypops?”

Hearing this question, the ice cream vendor woke up with such a bright face that it seemed that he had won the lottery. He replied-“ ten reals .My daughter makes those “mango lollypops” and I bring them everyday with me to sell, but I can’t sell them as much. Today, by asking for ten lollypops, you have made me very happy. Take these four lollypops for free.”

Martin bought twenty more mango lollypops and thanking the ice cream vendor, he went home happily. The vendor too had thanked him in a heartfelt way. He promised Martin a twenty percent discount each and everytime Martin would buy an ice cream or lollypop from him.

Incidents and stories, such as these make life beautiful and wonderful.

Joseph Who Didn’t Study.

Joseph didn’t study and he didn’t go to school for the last two years of his life. He was a staff cum boss at his father’s sweet shop. Joseph hardly got the time to even breathe as he had to do all sorts of work for his father, which entailed visiting government offices, printing cards, arranging for goods and getting everything done on time was his priority. So, as it happened, once his school mates came to his shop to buy some sweets. There they informed him that the tenth board exam which he had given two years back, had got him the best marks in two subjects and the board officials were coming to felicitate him.

Hearing this, he simply shrugged and gave them a samosa extra to each of his old friends.

Ram who was his best friend asked-“aren’t you coming to school for the function?”

Joseph-“I didn’t know about it till now and it’s been two years since I have left school.”

Ram-“So, what? You can appear for your examinations and cover up.”

Joseph- “ I have left my studies behind.”

Ram-“Why did you leave your studies behind?”

Joseph-“You know why.”

Ram-“ Its futile speaking to you when you are obstinate to the power infinity.”

Before, the final examinations, Joseph had been deliberately injured by another player who had been the coach’s con and when this matter was reported to the principal, he had simply patted Joseph on the back and had done nothing.

Ram and Joseph’s other friends left for their homes.

The next day newspapers bought a sensation in and around Joseph’s locality. He had been declared topper in five subjects, for the board examinations which he had given two years back.

Now how had all this surfaced?     A teacher from the board examinations department had leaked it out to the authorities that on being asked by the principal of the school, they had fudged Joseph’s marks and now that teacher had been sacked by the board as the same principal had given evidences of marks tampering against him, so he too had babbled everything out.

Joseph had suspected this from the beginning but had kept his mouth shut and now the whole had gathered in front of his sweet shop, to have a look at Joseph.

But Joseph hadn’t gone to the shop that day. Instead he had gone to a nearby village where everything was calm and quiet.

He returned home when the whole hullaboo had got over and found out that the principal had been sacked and he was on the run. It appeared that he had favoured few other candidates to get the school’s highest marks records.

Joseph was felicitated very grandly and everyone knew and recognized him, but he never entered school nor did he join any college or any other institution. Instead he became a private tutor for poor kids and often helped them understand the fundamental of the studies.

This had happened long back but the memories are still fresh. Joseph is one of the unsung heroes, whose mother had a bleeding heart. His parents know him how meticulous and hardworking is he, but Joseph knows that the prizes never come to the people who are poor in aggressive tendencies. He lives happily with his thoughts. His mother cries in pain. He plays flute to his mother and makes her quiet.

It is true. It is true for all of us.
