Ahora!

In a foreign country, I saw a mother calling out to her son –“Ahora! Ahora! Ahora!”.

I knew what “ahora” meant.

It’s a Spanish word, which means “now” in English.

That lady later became friends with my mother and someday when she had come over to our house, I mentioned this incident to her. Listening to me she replied-“ We were going to the super market to buy the monthly supplies and my son instead of getting into the car, started playing hide and seek with my neighbour’s son.”

So, I gave out a call to him again and this time, he began jumping on the stairs.

He came and told me –“ ma can I play for some more time?”

I-“No, you can’t. Get in the car, now.”

Him-“Nooo, I want to play some more!”

I -“Ahora! Ahora! Ahora!.”

As soon as I said this, he reluctantly got in the car.

So, read my blog AHORA!

Simply Wonderful Roses and Plum Cake.

On a walk to the general store on the corner of a specific locality, a flower seller was standing with four bunches of roses. The first bunch was of yellow roses, the second bunch was of pink roses, third bunch was of blue roses and fourth one was of red roses.

He was holding a red rose in his hand and loudly was calling out to everyone- “Thirty rupees for a rose, fifty for two, hundred for five and seven hundred for the whole bunch”.

We walked upto him and I asked-“How much if I bought a rose from each of your bunches?”

He replied- “ seventy five rupees.”

I-“Your flowers are very cheap. Why are you selling them at such a low price?”

Him-“That’s because today is the first day of school for my small boy. He is going to an English school in my locality and I need to be back home by twelve o’clock so that I can drop him off to school. If I am able to make two thousand to two thousand five hundred rupees, then my daily income quota is completed.”

I-“But how will you be able to sell so many roses by twelve?

Him-“If I can’t then, I will give these flowers to thenearby bakery shop as they need flowers for making bouquets.”

I-“Give me eight roses in all. Two yellow, two blue, two pink and two red.”

Him-“One hundred fifty rupees only.”

After paying him the money, he bought out a small piece of packed plum cake and gave it to us.

Him-“I hand out sampling pieces for the bakery as well, as my niece works there”.

We tasted the cake and it tasted simply wonderful.

I-“This piece of cake is really wonderful”.

Him-“Today before I go home, I will definitely buy a big plum cake for my boy, as I believe that plum cakes are a sign of blessings from Jesus and I want him to start his education with Jesus’s blessing.”

I-“We will also buy some plum cake for our evening snacks.”

Him-“Thank you sir.”

We bought half kilo of plum cake.

We started walking towards the main street and after finishing our work, we were trying to get an auto rickshaw when we met the flower seller again. He said-

“All of my flowers are sold. A man came and bought them for two thousand five hundred rupees and even gave his business card as he said that he might need for huge quantities of roses to be delivered to his place and now I am going home early and my little boy would be very happy to play with me before he goes to school for the first time.”

I-“that’s very very good.”

Him-“Yes, that it is.”

Saying so he handed us a red rose-“from my son”.

Ganesh Chaturthi was celebrated with much fun fare by all.

Ganesh Chaturthi was celebrated

Ganesh Chaturthi just went by. It was celebrated in a magnanimous scale. Pandals were decorated with themes of various interesting subjects and topics. Artisans, workers and sculptors were invited to give their touch of brilliance to the pandals and the Ganesh idols.

At a shop where they were selling Lord Ganesh idols, I saw an artisan putting the final coat of paint on the idol. He was colouring and painting the base of the idol with blue colour paint. Many people with their relatives brought Lord Ganesha to their homes while proclaiming and shouting loudly -“Ganapati Bappa Morya, Mangal Murti Morya”.

Laddoos and modaks (both of these are Indian sweets), which are the favorite sweets of Lord Ganesha, were being sold at every nook and corner. At a shop, I saw a fancy modak decorated with saffron threads and silver edible paper and it was nearly half a feet tall in size and it was out my budget so I couldn’t buy it.

There are varieties of modaks available. Ukdi che modak is a very special modak which is offered to Lord Ganesha.

Laddoos are generally of three types-Motichur, besan and boondi. Out of these three, my ma loves motichur laddoos.

On the day of Ganesh Chaturthi each and every one were celebrating by bringing the Lord Himself to their house.

Looking at the beautiful and sweet face of Lord Ganesha, his kind smile, his love and his blessings are felt by one and all. He is the all knower and all preserver, who is indomitable.

He is Lord Shiva’s and Goddess Parvati’s son.

Gauri Ganesh pooja is also celebrated with very much reverence, tradition and faith.

Goddess Gauri is the another name of Goddess Parvati.

The time approaching Ganesh Chaturthi and those moments celebrating is a different period from rest of the year. The whole atmosphere is full of the mood of festivity and of the excitement, anticipation and happiness of bringing Lord Ganesh home and celebrating those days with fun, sweets and by taking the blessings of the elders.

As Ganesh Chaturthi has ended there is a sad feeling that we all will have to wait for another year for the Ganesh Chaturthi to come again.

GANAPATI BAPPA MORYA.MANGAL MURTI MORYA.PURCHA BARSI LAUKARYA.

This proclamation means-“We sing and acclaim your glory O Lord Ganesha as Morya Gosavi Of Karnataka did as a parambhakt. The auspicious benefactor of all. Next year please come back again much faster”.

World Tourism Day.

You read it right. It’s today, the world tourism day.

The word tourism or more preferably –“travel” brings cheer and happiness to my mind. The sheer spirit and energy of having to pack a bag to travel so far or nearby place, brings a smile to my whole body. Those are the happy and happy of all the moments.

The sheer warmth of the plane or train ticket, the printout of the hotel booking and a bit of pocket money from ma and baba , for some small souvenirs are enough for me to sustain the beauty of packing the suitcases.

In India, there are infinite number of places where one can go for a tour. Each and every place has some sort of history, geographical importance and ethnic culture embedded in them and the dialect of a language changes every nine miles in India.

A lengthy train journey will take you through the interior core of the country, while a journey in a local train would show you the speed and swiftness with which people rush to their offices.

Travel not only means going on long trips or going for mountain trekking or a sojourn which encompasses multiple countries and cities; going home directly from school or office is a very important journey which we all must undertake, as home is the warmth and love gifted by God Almighty to all of us. After all, we all started our life’s journey from our mother’s womb.

It is not the distance which you cover that matters, but the completing home run does, otherwise we all would be lost forever.
