Skewered Seekh Kebab with Pudina Chutney.

Ma, baba and me, we were walking down a street where scores and scores of kebabs are sold on the streets. The nights are a bit cold due the incoming winter season. But when walking down that street you wouldn’t feel even an ounce of coldness as the tandoors are always running at the full speed and the cook and the waiter wouldn’t give you a run down of the menu plus they are continuously sweating from heat. It sometimes feels as if by magic the names of the kebabs would be known to you. Mostly the name and fame of any kebab shop spreads by mouth and people generally go to such shops with friends and as always there would be an all knowing friend who would describe and name the kebabs for you.

So, looking at those kebabs, I found that my insides were 50% empty, therefore, I asked ma and baba to buy kebabs, plus we hadn’t had any tea and snacks in the evening. There wasn’t a huge rush but the men behind the counter were so busy that, it took atleast five minutes before a person took down our order.

I was waiting outside with ma and dad came and told us that he had placed the order. Now we simply had to wait. Ten minutes had gone, yet our kebabs were nowhere to be seen. Then suddenly a waiter came out a placed three plates on the table infront of us and he said-“aapke kebabs” (meaning your kebabs). When you place your order at any street side restaurant, what happens is that you have to eat your food standing and if  flies disturb you while you are having your food then it gets very irritating. So, as soon as we started eating the kebabs with the pudina chutney provided, we found out two things. They are:-

  1. The seekh kebabs were extremely hot and the chutney was tangy.

2.There were no flies to disturb only the incessant and constant honking of cars.

The kebabs turned out to be beautiful. They were cooked to near perfection, tender to eat with the chutney serving as a tantalizingly tangy base to it.

After having the kebabs we had a cup of masala tea each. Our evening became as serene as the walk near the Corniche, which was once very near to our house.

Bread Cookies with tea.

Have you ever eaten bread cookies? They do exist and are wonderful to eat. Cookies aren’t only made out of flour or maida. They can be made of bread.Well my mom knows how to make them and I am proud of her. What astonishes me is the ability of bread to mold and become hard when it is baked. What ma does is she add chocolate crumbs or chocolate fillings in bread cookies and sometimes she even adds those fruity things in the bread cookies and they taste simply magnificent. With a steaming hot cup of tea, they taste like soft sweetened breads and give a wonderfull feeling that my day is beautiful and only bread cookies and tea exists in the whole world.I generally prefer sweet tea with milk, but green tea is also a good option. Even in a day, if I have them ten times, I wouldn’t be satisfied and each and every I dip those bread cookie in the tea, my tea becomes lesser in quantity and my appetite for it grows more and more and more .

Afterwards,zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

The morning tea.
Morning Tea, tea

Morning Tea.

Morning tea is the most essential part of our daily life. Without it our day doesn’t start. It is same for us as is petrol for car. Dad will not move an inch without it and while having it he will read the newspaper and in doing so, his tea would become colder than those Swiss mountains. Till I was in fifth standard, I used to have milk with milo for breakfast everyday. But every now and then I would request ma to give me tea for breakfast. She would gently tell me no, reminding me that milk is essential for growth and for bones and teeth. She would tell me-“your teeth would fall off” and listening to this I continued with milk. From eighth standard,I started drinking tea for breakfast and it felt good.I felt like a grown up.I used to drink tea with relish and taking sips from it as adults do. Then came a time when everyone started telling that how bad morning tea was and all you need to do was drink green tea. So we started drinking green tea and had it for nearly six months and then enough was enough. We reverted back to our sweet own tea with milk. The addition of milk, sugar and a bit of ginger, renders the most beautiful beverage called tea into your cups.Without them the tea feels as empty as dead sea without salts and french fries without the fries. I was travelling with a nearly world famous airlines once, and the tea that they had served was so bland that I had a hard time drinking it.Ma and baba had finished their cups, but I kept on looking out of the window while holding my cup with the tea almost full to its brim and didn’t take a single more sip out of it after the first one.Baba told me-“This is the type of tea that they serve here. You are on an international flight.Drink it up.” I drank it up and immediately had my cheese sandwich to cover the bland taste of the tea. As a result of my delay in having the tea, the air hostess had collected everyone’s tray but mine and gone away. So, I had to press the cabin crew call button and asked her to take away the tray. So, by now you know that the morning tea is very essential for our whole family and without it even international journeys feel boring and unworthy.

So, enjoy your morning tea and relish it, because there nothing as good as it and it’s beauty is unmatched and unparalleled.
