Today is Diwali. Wish you all a very happy Diwali.
Diwali is an ancient festival in India. It is the grand festival of Lights. Lord Ram came back home from exile after fourteen years, so it is a very happy day.
The thing which used to excite me when I was small was that you can burst a lot of crackers on this particular day and there used to be a cracker which used to light up as a fountain and I liked it the most.
Sweets are another and huge part of this tradition. Various multi coloured sweets are made in sweet shops and people buy them in huge quantities and give and gift them to their friends and relatives. At home many sweets are made such as Malpua, Jalebi and Laddoos.
Diwali is the time when people light diyas (small earthen bases filled with oil and it is lit with a cotton wick). A series or rows of diyas looks wonderful.
At night, the fire crackers light up the sky in different colours and looking from a window, it feels as if the sky has become multi coloured with the darkness of it becoming the blank sheet of a sketch book.
There are many festive offers on electronic items, household goods which are given during the time before Diwali.
Diwali is a time of happiness, auspiciousness, prosperity and the time of celebrations with friends and family.
Diwali holidays is the vacation to which we all look forward to.
During Diwali we(ma, baba and me) used to visit our maternal grandmother in Kolkata, but now she is with God Almightiest and there is no on whom we can visit. If the old days were to come back now, then we would immediately pack our bags and go to visit her and spend a lot of time with her.
Had she (my maternal grandmother) been alive today, our days would have been completely different.
My maternal grandfather used to lit the diyas and seeing the diays lit, he would become very happy.Such true happiness is rarer than any gem which can be found on earth or anywhere else.
